TimeCapsules
A visual storytelling experience created to preserve the people and places that matter most.
A documentary portrait project by Rex Autry
What Is a TimeCapsule?
A TimeCapsule is a short cinematic documentary that preserves a person, place, organization, or creative practice through interviews, environmental footage, photographs, sound, and carefully edited visual storytelling.
The central idea is not simply to promote someone. It is to create a durable record of who they are at a particular point in time.
TimeCapsules begins with the belief that ordinary lives deserve to be remembered with the same seriousness traditionally reserved for celebrities, political figures, and historical events. Most people leave behind scattered photographs, social media accounts, and stories remembered imperfectly by other people. Their actual voice, mannerisms, surroundings, humor, gestures, beliefs, and way of explaining their life are easily lost.
A TimeCapsule preserves more than biographical information. It preserves a person’s voice. Their relationship to a particular place. Their philosophy. Their memories. The atmosphere of a moment that may later disappear.
What It Preserves
- —A person's voice and mannerisms
- —Their relationship to a place
- —Family or cultural history
- —Philosophy and beliefs
- —Memories and personal mythology
- —The tools and environment of their work
- —Their explanation of why they create
- —The atmosphere of a moment
- —What disappears when nobody records it
- —The ordinary made significant

TimeCapsules is not a corporate video side business. It is an extension of Rex Autry’s broader practice across painting, photography, film, graphic design, and cultural observation. His paintings turn experiences, materials, and memories into physical records. TimeCapsules pursue a similar goal through moving images, speech, music, ambient sound, and documentary editing.
